Congratulations to Noongar Radio, 6NME on winning Community Broadcasting’s Excellence In Spoke Word Award for 2013.
I&G were thrilled to be there when Carol Dowling, Producer of the award-winning series stepped up to collect the prize at the Menzies Hotel in Sydney last Saturday night.

Carol’s series, produced for Noongar Radio, and funded by the Department  of Health and Ageing, consisted of a 30-part series on the serious subject of ear disease.  Preventable ear disease is the leading cause of hearing loss among Aboriginal Australians and is a contributing factor in ongoing Indigenous disadvantage.

In the course of producing the series, Carol interviewed 30 different people to gain a multitude of perspectives. These have included leading health professionals, frontline Aboriginal health workers, and importantly, the voices of mothers, carers, aunties, grandparents and uncles from the communities of Perth, Mandurah, Bunbury and Kwinana in Western Australia.

The series is also a 2013 finalist for the Human Rights Commission Radio Award, the winner of which will be announced on December 10.
